Customer-provided items

Please understand the risk before we engrave your item.

Longview Laser & Design Co. welcomes many customer-provided products for engraving. Because materials, coatings and construction can react unpredictably, these projects are accepted at the customer’s risk.

Important replacement policy

Longview Laser & Design Co. cannot replace, reimburse or compensate customers for customer-provided items that are damaged, discolored, incorrectly marked or otherwise affected during setup, testing, handling or engraving.

Why results can vary

Every material reacts differently.

Products that look alike may contain different coatings, adhesives, hidden layers or material blends. We may not be able to verify how an item was manufactured or whether it is suitable for laser engraving.

Color & contrast

The finished mark may be lighter, darker or less consistent than expected.

Surface damage

Coatings may discolor, lift, chip, burn or expose an unexpected layer.

Heat reaction

Some products may melt, warp, crack or change shape during processing.

Hidden construction

Adhesives, liners and internal layers may react even when the exterior appears compatible.

Manufacturer defects

Engraving may reveal an existing defect or inconsistency that was not previously visible.

Digital previews

Proofs confirm layout and placement but cannot guarantee the exact physical color or finish.

Common questions

Customer-provided item FAQs.

Please review these answers before leaving a product with us.

Can I bring my own item to be engraved?

Yes, depending on the product and material. We must inspect the item before accepting the project. We may decline anything that appears unsafe, unsuitable, unusually valuable or irreplaceable.

Who is responsible for a customer-provided item?

Customer-provided items are submitted at the customer’s risk. Because we did not manufacture or sell the original product, Longview Laser & Design Co. is not responsible for replacing or reimbursing the item if it is damaged or produces an unexpected result.

Will you replace my item if something goes wrong?

No. Longview Laser & Design Co. cannot replace or reimburse customer-provided merchandise if it is damaged, incorrectly marked or does not produce the expected result. Customers should not provide an item they are unwilling or unable to replace.

Should I provide an extra item for testing?

When possible, yes. A matching test item lets us evaluate settings before working on the final product. Testing reduces risk, but it cannot guarantee that every item will react identically.

Can you engrave sentimental or irreplaceable items?

We strongly recommend against engraving one-of-a-kind, sentimental, antique or irreplaceable items. If we agree to accept one, the customer accepts the possibility of permanent damage or an unexpected result.

Can you guarantee the exact engraving color or appearance?

No. Final color, depth, contrast and appearance depend on the product’s material and finish. A digital proof represents layout and placement, not the exact physical result.

What information should I provide?

Please share any available material composition, manufacturer or product link, coating information, care instructions, known restrictions and previous engraving examples.

Is approval required before work begins?

Yes. By approving the project or leaving a customer-provided item with Longview Laser & Design Co., the customer confirms that they understand and accept this policy.

Customer acknowledgment

Only provide an item if you accept the risk.

If an item has significant monetary or sentimental value, please choose a replaceable alternative. We are happy to discuss the product before accepting it, but inspection does not guarantee a specific engraving result.

By approving the project or leaving a customer-provided item with Longview Laser & Design Co., the customer acknowledges this policy and accepts the risks associated with engraving the item.
